Marking „Naked Feminism’s“ USA launch day with a Naked Book Reading

Victoria Bateman’s „Naked Feminism: Breaking the Cult of Female Modesty“ launches in the USA on 16 May 2023. In this video, Victoria uses the combined force of body and brain to show that all women are worthy of being taken seriously – that women shouldn’t have to pass a modesty test in order to be heard. At a time when women’s bodily freedoms are under attack – when women in Iran are fighting for the right to uncover their hair, when girls in Afghanistan are being removed from school to protect their bodily „purity“, and when women in the USA are having their right to control their own fertility withdrawn – we must beware of all those who argue that women’s uncovered and „promiscuous“ bodies are a threat to themselves and to their society. It’s time to break down the wall that divides women into „good girls“ and harlots – to value women on the basis of much less superficial things than the degree to which their bodies have been seen or touched. Only by doing so can we bring to an end the practices and policies that constrain women’s freedoms across the world, from virginity testing and female genital cutting to compulsory hijab and revenge porn. All women deserve respect – whether they are modest or „immodest“ – and freedom for the mind cannot be achieved without freedom for the body.
