Die ersten modernen Olympischen Spiele fallen mit der Erfindung des Kinematographen zusammen, der die Art und Weise, wie Sport betrieben und rezipiert wird, völlig verändert. Die Regeln der Olympischen Spiele werden unter dem Blick der Kamera und der Tele-Teilnahme des Zuschauers verändert. Für den Zuschauer wird diese verzerrte Wahrnehmung der Spiele zu einem eindringlichen Erlebnis mit Elementen des Melodramas.

Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei der Körper, dem die Spielregeln immer mehr abverlangen. Moderne Sportarten verlangen den Athleten extreme Belastungen ab, die die biologische Kapazität des Körpers übersteigen.

The first modern Olympic Games coincide with the invention of the cinematograph, which completely transformed the way sports are participated in and received. Rules of the Olympics are being changed under the gaze of the camera and the tele-participation of the spectator. For the spectator, this distorted perception of the games becomes an immersive experience with elements of melodrama.

At the center of it all is the body, from which the rules of the game constantly demand more and more. Modern sports impose extreme loads on athletes that exceed the biological capacity of the body.
