Swing High, Swing Low (1937)

„Swing High, Swing Low“ is a 1937 romantic comedy drama film directed by Mitchell Leisen. The screenplay by Virginia Van Upp, Oscar Hammerstein II, Walter DeLeon and Francis Martin is based on the popular 1927 Broadway play „Burlesque“ by George Manker Watters and Arthur Hopkins.

A hair-dresser stranded in Panama moves in with an ex-soldier and his hypochondriac roommate; she and the former fall in love, but their romance is threatened by success and the arrival of his old flame.
In Panama, Maggie King meets soldier Skid Johnson on his last day in the army and reluctantly agrees to a date to celebrate. The two become involved in a nightclub brawl which causes Maggie to miss her ship back to the States. Now stranded, she's forced to move in with Skid and his pal Harry. She soon falls in love with Skid. Skid gets a job playing the trumpet at a local club and becomes a big success, but fame and fortune go to his head and threaten to destroy their relationship and his career.
