„Dick Tracy“ is a 1937 15-chapter Republic movie serial directed by Alan James and Ray Taylor. The screenplay by Barry Shipman, Winston Miller, Morgan Cox and George Morgan is based on the „Dick Tracy“ comic strip by Chester Gould.
Dick Tracy’s adversary in this series is the crime boss and masked mysterious villain “the Spider” or “the Lame One” and his spider ring. While committing various crimes, including the destruction of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco with the help of his flying wing and sound weapon and the theft of an experimental “speed plane”, the Spider captures Dick Tracy’s brother Gordon. The Spider’s minion, Dr. Moloch, performs brain surgery on Gordon Tracy to convert him to evil, secretly becoming part of the Spider’s ring and turning brother against brother.
