Pet Rock

The Pet Rock was a toy created in 1975 by advertising executive Gary Dahl. It was simply a smooth stone packaged in a cardboard box with holes for ventilation, along with a humorous manual on how to care for the „pet rock“. Despite its simplicity, the Pet Rock became a huge marketing phenomenon, selling over 1 million units and making Dahl a millionaire. The success of the Pet Rock was largely attributed to its clever marketing campaign and Dahl's ability to tap into the cultural trends of the time.
